Award-winning mezzo-soprano Belinda Williams had her Wigmore Hall debut recital in 2010 after winning the Tillett Trust Young Artists’' Platform, and since then has gone on to perform across Europe on both the operatic stage and the recital platform. Highlights of 2011 have included her London debut as Bizet'’s eponymous ‘Carmen’ at Sadler’'s Wells (dir. James Hurley, cond. John Andrews), and the Estonian premiere of Unsuk Chin’'s Alice in Wonderland with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (cond. Olari Elts, Tallinn National Concert Hall), and 2012 sets to launch with a Purcell Room debut recital in which Belinda will premiere new works by Thea Musgrave and Janice Hamer for the Park Lane Group.Belinda is a passionate exponent of new music, having premiered many new works. In 2011 Belinda premiered the role of 'Li' in Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’' new opera Kommilitonen!, directed by David Pountney (RAO). In 2008, she made her BBC Radio 4 debut singing ‘'Mary, Mother of God'’ on Good Friday in Sasha Johnson Manning’'s Daughters of Jerusalem with words by Carol-Ann Duffy. In 2010, Belinda made her Italian debut with Philadelphia-based International Opera Theater singing the title role in Efraín Amaya'’s new opera La Bisbetica (dir. Karen Saillant, cond. Maestro Gianmaria Griglio) at the Bergamo Festival. New operas include: Box Story by Jocelyn Pook with celebrated performance artist Bobby Baker (Warwick Arts Centre), and ‘'Lovely Lady’' in Purcell: His Ground by David Knotts (Royal Opera House, Clore Studio). Belinda was born in London and graduated with distinction in 2011 from the Royal Academy of Music Opera Course, where she studied with Ryland Davies, supported by RAM and Countess of Munster Trust awards. Belinda has also trained with ENO Baylis, at Trinity College of Music, and privately with Yvonne Minton, and is a Britten-Pears Young Artist, a Samling Scholar, a Tillett Trust Young Artist, a Park Lane Group Young Artist, and a Countess of Munster Trust Recitalist.Belinda has worked with many exciting opera companies, both at home and abroad. After singing the role of 'Princess Linette' in Prokofiev's The Love for 3 Oranges at Grange Park Opera in 2010 (dir. David Fielding, cond. Leo Hussain), 2011 has seen Belinda return to sing the role of ‘'2nd Nymph’' in their critically-acclaimed Rusalka (dir. Antony McDonald, cond. Stephen Barlow). Other operas include: Inferno for Mahogany Opera & the Aurora Orchestra (dir. Frederic Wake-Walker, cond. Nicholas Collon, LSO St. Luke’s); ‘'The Sorceress'’ Dido and Aeneas, (cond. Simon Over, Southbank Sinfonia); ‘'Baba the Turk'’ The Rake’s Progress (dir. Mike Ashman, Blackheath Halls); ‘'Popova’' The Bear; ‘'Cherubino'’ Le nozze di Figaro; ‘'Hansel'’ (Opera Minima); ‘'Orlofsky'’ Die Flerdermaus, ‘'Dorabella'’ Così fan tutte and ‘'L’'Enfant’' L'’Enfant et les Sortilèges (all cond. Ben Palmer, Orchestra of St Paul’s Covent Garden).As a recitalist, Belinda has performed at notable venues such as St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Hollywell Music Rooms, Wigmore Hall, Cheltenham Pump Rooms, Cheltenham Town Hall, and Handel House, and works regularly with the pianists James Baillieu and Prof. David Owen Norris. She has sung extensively as an oratorio soloist, notably in the Bach St John Passion, conducted by Richard Egarr at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel in Greenwich and again at the Musique Cordiale Festival in Provence. In 2012 Belinda will give European premieres of works by Dame Thea Musgrave and Janice Hamer at the Purcell Room, and appears as ‘'Tisbe’' in La Cenerentola with the Southbank Sinfonia.
