Suor Angelica

Belinda Williams, soprano, and James Longford, pianist
'Senza Mamma' by Puccini

Ahead of our première of Suor Angelica later this October, music director James Longford and I recorded 'Senza Mamma' in the ballroom at Northwood House. Puccini's ill-fated heroine has been sent to a nunnery for the crime of conceiving a child out of wedlock. Seven years have passed without news, but finally Angelica learns that her adored son died some years ago. She sings, "You died without your mother, baby boy, your little lips unkissed by me".
