Happy New Year! Konzert
A Teutonic New Year but with a very British flavour - that is what the audience in Oberhaching awaited, as many of them queued around the icy block. I cannot, however, delude myself into thinking that it was me they were queuing for, as I had the great pleasure of sharing the stage with the star tenor Bernhard Hirtreiter, whose fame as one third of Die Jungen Tenöre packs any venue he alights upon and who leaves women across Germany weak at the knees. He is also a magnificent compère, a Bavarian Roger Moore who seamlessly linked British greats from Purcell to Spamalot. Perhaps it was me who had the most fun though - a concert version of Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger? What better way to start the year!
